World’s largest video game controller

NES now holds the world record of having the largest video game controller in the world. Unveiled to the world at London’s Liverpool St. station in conjunction with the Guinness World Records 2012 Gamer’s Edition, it is 30 times larger compared to the stock NES controller. British Engineering student Ben Allen, who was just two years old when the NES hit North America in 1985, took around 5 months to complete this labor of love at an estimated cost of £4,000. Something tells me it must be due to the magic mushrooms that he had been consuming at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands to dream of this – no really, it is most probably his sheer love for the classic console from Nintendo that moved him to pay such a tribute with an actual working video game controller.

Mionix Zibal 60 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard

Mionix will be introducing the Zibal 60 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard at CES this year. Touted to be a fusion of “the best keyboard components and great gaming features”, the Zibal 60 is said to give your game the edge that you have been searching for. All fluff aside, the Zibal 60 is built with non-tactile, mechanical, black cherry MX switches, lit up by multi-level backlight illumination, and support for up to six simultaneous keystrokes. The keyboard also features a two-port USB 2.0 hub, audio/mic extensions, media control keys, detachable wrist rest, and “rage proof durability” (which probably means it’s a suitable keyboard for hot-tempered gamers). Mionix will be demonstrating the Zibal 60 at CES 2012 next week so if you happen to be at the ShowStoppers event on January 10^th, you can give it a spin.

Ear Force headsets for mobile gamers

TurtleBeach is unveiling three new gaming headsets specifically designed for mobile gamers and these should rock your eardrums, in a good way. The Ear Force M3, M5, and M1 all seem like worthy headsets for anyone looking for truly premium audio quality, which isn’t often found in mobile devices. Though the M3 is the cheapest of the three at only $39.95, it’s actually the mid-range product. It’s the best choice for heavy travelers since the ear cups can fold up and quickly be tucked away with other belongings. Turtle Beach does promise that the ear cups are extremely comfortable, so don’t be fooled by the M3′s small design. Inside, there’s high-fidelity 40mm audio drivers that are also in the top-of-the-line M5 model. Turtle Beach built in a small microphone, too. Speaking of the M5, this is the one to go after if you are serious about powering up that smartphone or tablet, launching a game, and kicking some ass. As I mentioned, the M5 features the same audio drivers and built-in mic as the M3, but I think the real winning feature here is the circumaural ear cups. If you’ve ever used supraaural ear cups — which rest directly on your ears while circumaural wraps around them — for a long period of time, you’ll appreciate the roominess of the M5. This also allows for noise-isolation and Turtle Beach naturally boasts that as a feature. The M5 is ten bucks more than the M3 at $49.95.

It would appear that the gaming mouse is designed for Assassin’s Creed Revelations, and it has been decorated with leather mouse buttons. It would appear to have buttons for play/pause, stop, music, and others. You have to look very close on the image to see them, though. This gaming mouse will make an appearance at CES 2012, in colors of “Altair white” and “Ezio grey”. Shogun Bros. will also have some other cool problems on display.

The Roundbox is an all-in-one entertainment and learning machine; it combines the functions of a TV, DVD player, video game console, digital camera, and laptop and tablet computer. It’s all wrapped up in a kid-friendly design that’s both easy to carry and simple to use. But a couple of the design features are very cool, especially for a kids’ product: first, the screen can rotate and then close, creating a tablet computer that can be held on the lap. Also, the touch pad can be left in place on the computer’s body and used like a regular touch pad – or it can be removed and used as a mouse.

The Nokia Xbox tablet is supposed to provide the Xbox gaming experience on the go and the designer warns us that this device can become expensive. You can download real Xbox games on it and convert/render the graphics so it doesn’t use up too much battery and memory. The Nokia Tablet is supposed to be called Nokia X Slate and it will pack 2 GB of RAM, the Nvidia Tegra 4 Wayne processor (1.5GHz) and a big 9500 mAh battery. This device can dual boot Windows 8 or the dashboard and Nokia X Slate has 2 USB ports, a mini HDMI, a 2 megapixel front camera, WiFi support, 4G/3G connectivity and more. The form factor is a bit sloped, so it’s thinner at the top and bulkier at the bottom.

As far as we can see, the gaming controls from the sides can be flipped to the back of the touchscreen, turning it back into a handset. Biceps and forearms, built up over years of playing Wii Sports and speed-eating Doritos, can now be used for something even more entertaining: playing video games hands-free. It uses muscle sensors in place of a Nintendo controller to navigate through a level of Super Mario Bros 3. Four muscles – left and right forearm and left and right bicep – and their combinations are used to perform the basic functions in the game. By tensing the appropriate muscles at the appropriate times, a player can guide Mario through the game with no need for hands at all. The fun biofeedback project only requires basic tech know-how but is pretty impressive when you see it in action.

The SteelSeries Shift  have received the Siberia V2, the company was nice enough to send over the Shift. he Shift has a removable keyboard that can be switched out for games like World of Warcraft or AION. These keyboards fold up when not in use, and are easily switchable. The Shift also has a few ports. There are two gold plated microphone-in and audio-out ports, as well as two USB 2.0 ports. By the way, you have to plug in the Shift to your laptop or desktop into the headphone and microphone ports, and you need to plug in two USB plugs to get the two USB ports on the keyboard to work. Another feature is the easy to record macros. You know those moves in MMO games that require several buttons to accomplish? Imagine being able to do that move with one button. Now imagine having seven more buttons for your macros. By the way, the Shift also has some easy-to-access media keys on the side. Other features include adjustable rubberized feet for 3 different height settings as well as Fine-Tuned Heat Spots.
